World-Renowned Cartoonists are at the 4th International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest
The 4th International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest is organized with the theme of “Role of Healthy Life in the 100th Anniversary of the Fight Against Addiction”. For the contest, in which a new prize will also be awarded in the 100th anniversary of Green Crescent, applications will continue until 14 February. Green Crescent General Manager Sultan Işık made remarks on the contest and said, “We look forward to seeing the inspiring works of cartoonists across the world to reflect their own cultural perspectives.”
The Green Crescent organizes the 4th International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest to attract attention and raise awareness of the world, our country and particularly young people against addictions. The theme of the contest, which is open to the participation of all professional and amateur cartoonists across the world and Turkey, is determined as “Role of Healthy Life in the 100th Anniversary of the Fight Against Addiction” this year. Applications can be made on yesilay.org.tr until 14 February 2020.
Green Crescent General Manager Sultan Işık stated that 2020 is the 100th anniversary of Green Crescent and that they focus on the role of healthy life in the fight against all addictions this year. She also mentioned about the contest as follows: “We organize the 4th International Cartoon Contest with the theme of ‘Role of Healthy Life in the 100th Anniversary of the Fight Against Addiction’. Last year, 414 cartoonists with different 787 cartoons from 51 countries applied to our contest which has been attracting a great interest for 3 years. Total number of works taking place in the contest has reached to 2,848 to date. We are very glad that our contest contributes to the development and deployment of cartooning as an art, apart from bearing the mission of the fight against addiction in the best manner around the world. 70% of the works in the contest up to date belonged to foreign cartoonists, including internationally important names such as Soltan Soltanli from Azerbaijan, Luc Descheemaeker from Belgium, Silvano Mello from Brazil, Kambiz Derambakhsh from Iran and Borislav Stankoviç from Serbia. Many young cartoonists have also made their names for the first time with this contest. This year, we also look forward to seeing the inspiring works of cartoonists across the world to reflect their own cultural perspectives.”
The total prize to be presented within the contest increased to 35 thousand TRY with the inclusion of 100th anniversary prize
The theme of the 4th International Green Crescent Cartoon
Contest was determined considering the fact that the healthy life
awareness and the habits developed in this direction will contribute to
avoidance of addictive substances. At the end of the contest, the first
winner will be awarded with 10.000 TRY, second with 7.500 TRY, third
with 5.000 TRY while 3 persons will be granted an achievement award of
2.500 TRY. Moreover, a person will be granted Mazhar Osman Prize worth
of 2.500 TRY and one person will have the 100th Anniversary
Special Prize worth of 2.500 TRY. Green Crescent will give a total prize
of 35 thousand TRY within the 4th International Green Crescent Cartoon
Contest.
About Mazhar Osman
Ordinary Professor Dr. Mazhar Osman, who was born in 1884 and died in
1951, was the physician to establish the first modern mental health
hospital in Turkey. He pioneered in the treatment of mental and
neurological diseases with modern methods in Turkey. In 1920, he founded
the Green Crescent under the name of “Hilal-i Ahdar” (Ottoman for
“Green Crescent”) and held the presidency of it until 1945.
